At Barkaritaville Pet Resort, Fourth of July is a time for celebration, marked by barbeques, fun with friends and family, and, of course, fireworks. While these festivities are exciting for us humans, they can be stressful and frightening for our pets. The loud noises and bright flashes of fireworks can cause anxiety for our dogs and cats, leading to panic and potentially dangerous behaviors. More pets reportedly go missing around the Fourth of July than any other time of the year.
As a responsible pet owner, it’s essential to take steps to ensure your furry friends feel safe and secure during the celebrations. Here are Barkaritaville’s tips to help you prepare and keep your pets calm on Independence Day.
Create a Safe Space
Designate a quiet, comfortable area in your home where your pet can retreat during the fireworks. This could be a cozy room with minimal windows or a crate covered with a blanket. Keep familiar items nearby, like their favorite toys, blankets, and bedding to provide a sense of security and comfort.
